When I was a little girl I saw the Jim Henson film, “Labyrinth” I remember being frightened by the creatures and the Goblin King. It took me years to revisit it and when I did it was magical. “As The World Falls Down” is still one of my favorite songs and David Bowie’s vocals are unparalleled.

This morning as I got my morning coffee I saw the front page of the newspaper and my heart sank. It read, “David Bowie Dead at 69” I stared at it for a couple of seconds and shook my head telling myself it was a sick joke. I was sickened by the audacity of the paper and for some reason it did not register. I decided to check my phone because clearly this was a hoax but sadly it was not. David Bowie has indeed passed away after an 18 month long battle with cancer. I was overcome by sadness. My eyes welded up and I began to sob uncontrollably as I made my way to work.

Once the crying stopped I played some of his music, filling my ears with his vocals once more. I found comfort in knowing that his music will live on for many generations to come.

Rest in Peace Jareth, Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie you will be missed.

Jareth: You remind me of the babe.
Goblin: What babe?
Jareth: The babe with the power.
Goblin: What power?
Jareth: Power of voodoo.
Goblin: Who do?
Jareth: You do.
