The Olympics are wrapping up in Paris, and like many of you, I am glued to Peacock, watching all the different events. I’ve been following women’s basketball, women’s 3X3 basketball (USA wins BRONZE), gymnastics (so many medals!), and Women’s Volleyball (Team Dominican Republic). Below is a very biased recap of the Olympics.

Simone Biles

Simone Biles, the amazing gymnast, wowed us with her record-breaking acrobatic performances and is now the most decorated Olympic gymnast. After nabbing GOLD in the team event (Team USA), and individual all-around, the vault final is known as “the most difficult vault in women’s gymnastics” and is named after Biles.

Biles fell short in the final event and won SILVER. American teammate Jordan Chiles took home BRONZE, but Brazilian gymnast Rebecca Andrade stole the show and dazzled with her jumps and floor routine. Three black women triumphantly stood on the Olympic podium for the first time.

Women’s 3X3 Basketball

In women’s 3X3 basketball, the US team made a remarkable comeback after losing their first three games and eventually qualified for the finals. After defeating Canada, they secured a bronze medal, with Dearica Hamby making a game-changing basket and a free throw in the final minutes. Hamby, a last-minute replacement for an injured teammate, played a key role in their victory.
Next up is the women’s 5 x 5 Olympic basketball team. They are set to face Nigeria in the quarterfinals. The USA Women’s Basketball team is undefeated, has won 58 Olympic wins in a row, and is No. 1 in the medal round. The team, this year, led by A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces), and Breanna Stewart (New York Liberty) the ladies hope to keep the streak alive and bring another gold medal to the USA Women’s Basketball team. The next game is set to take place on August 7th when the US team faces Nigeria.

Good luck, Team USA!
