Gabby Thomas, with her mouth agape, pumped her fist in the air triumphantly after she zoomed past the finish line. The American Track and Field star became the first American Woman in the 200-meter race since 2016 to win a Gold medal.
The previous Gold medal winner, Ledecky, won four gold medals in 2016, coming first in women’s 200m, 400m, 800m freestyle, and the 4x100m freestyle relay, which she took home silver.
