Like most “Best of” lists of 2024, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish are at the forefront; however, this list also features a New York City hard rock band (Wildstreet) and a Pacific Northwest duo (Wonderly). These are just a handful of some of the best albums of 2024 that I adore.
Billie Eilish, “Hit Me Hard and Soft”
I love this f**king album! There I said it. I can’t even articulate exactly what this album has meant to me. Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft” is her best work, from experiencing a sneak preview at the Barclays Center album pre-release listening party to playing it continuously on repeat, whether it is the cheeky lead-off single, “Lunch,” or the multi-Grammy-nominated “Birds of A Feather,” there is a bit of something for all music lovers.
Taylor Swift, “The Tortured Poets Department (Anthology)”
Months after its release earlier this year, “The Tortured Poets Department (Anthology)” remains on constant rotation. The mark of a good album is the ability to feel things, be it different at times, but something is felt while listening. A great album imprints in you; it becomes a part of your DNA. There was life before TTPD, and after it, the Taylor we knew had evolved from a pop star to a global icon. Even haters can’t deny the magnitude of her success and appeal.

Wildstreet, “Origins”
Wildstreet has released a two-album compilation titled “Origins” through Eonian Records on December 4, 2024. This release serves as both an introduction for new listeners and a nostalgic reminder for longtime fans of the New York rock band. “Origins” compiles their albums “Wildstreet” and “Wildstreet II…Faster…Louder!” along with notable singles such as ‘Easy Does It’ and ‘Raise Hell.’ In addition, the compilation features unreleased rarities, updated artwork, a comprehensive band history, song lyrics, and rare photographs, making it a definitive collection for anyone interested in the band’s journey.
The band’s current lineup includes founding member and frontman Eric Jayk (lead vocals & lead guitar), Wrath Starz (lead & Rhythm Guitar, vocals), Kevin R. Scarf (bass & vocals), and DD Star (drums, vocals).
Wonderly, “Wolves”
Wonderly’s “Wolves” album features outstanding vocals, harmonies, and thought-provoking lyrics, best illustrated in the opening track, “It Was Written That Way.” You will experience an array of emotions when listening to “Wolves.” There’s just a sense of tranquility and serenity when listening to the harmonies featured on this album. The Pacific Northwest duo’s 11-track album explores the complexities of the human experience. This is the seventh release from Wonderly.
Standout tracks include “It Was Written That Way,” “No One Has a Name,” and “Words to Say Goodbye.”
